The Icehouse is Open

The Icehouse at Docklands was officially opened on February 12th coinciding perfectly with the commencement of the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The venue was filled with officials, ministers, and people of significance, including what seemed to be hundreds of excited school aged children eager to hit the ice, and feel firsthand what it feels like to glide, or in some cases, grasp the rink edges, at the start of what promises to be a tremendous addition for Docklands and Melbourne in general.

Television personality, Jules Lund was on hand to officiate as MC who got the official proceedings underway with speeches from stakeholders, including Victorian Premier John Brumby.

Once the ribbon was cut, the audience was treated to some amazing demonstrations of ice sports while a presentation overhead on the massive screens introduced some of our Olympic athletes and gave an overview of each of the four disciplines, curling, speed skating, figure skating and ice hockey.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, the Icehouse offered an invitation to an open session where everyone was welcome to don some skates and
glide into the night.
