To many, Melbourne is the fashion capitol of Australia, the cultural hub and a foodie’s paradise. How did we earn these distinctions? If the C.B.D. is the “heart beat” then surely the “arteries” such as St. Kilda Rd., Chapel St., Brunswick St., Lygon St. Toorak Rd and Latrobe St, which leads us to Docklands, is the answer. Taking a stroll down any of these boulevards will make you, and interstate visitors realise why Melbourne is such a great place to live.
Riva Restaurant at St. Kildas marina was the scene of owner Drewe Bellmaine’s birthday. The pretty people were out in force and much champagne was consumed. The musical highlight of the month was the opening night of “Mame” starring Rhonda Burchmore. This leggy bombshell owned the part from her entrance to the standing ovation she and her fellow cast members deserved. A special mention to Nicki Wendt as Mames old pal Vera. Once again she was on the money. The Australian Opera season begins in November with my favourite Puccini opera “Madama Butterfly”.
