An eclectic mix of colours jumps out at you from across the room, shining jewellery glimmers at you from every corner, the aroma of freshly baked waffles wafts through the air.
This is the greeting you\'ll receive as you enter Ormond Hall on the second Saturday of every month, as it becomes home to The Up & Comers Fashion Market.
Each month over thirty men\'s and women\'s stalls display some of Australia\'s freshest labels in independent clothing, jewellery and accessories, as well as a number of vintage collections.
Originating from a desire to provide opportunities for emerging designers
to showcase their work, The Up & Comers Fashion Market is fast becoming one of Melbourne\'s premiere destinations to find the next big names in fashion, not to mention it makes for the perfect Saturday out.
RMIT communications graduate, Stef Dadon, is the creative mind behind our city\'s newest fashion hotspot. Dadon says, \"Stallholders are selected for their creative designs and original perspectives, so what you find at The Up & Comers Fashion Market, you won\'t find anywhere else\".
And this is clear from the huge array of unique and talented designers displaying their goods once a month. Labels that have exhibited at the market so far include fashion by Lilyhart, Future Romance, Modernist and Leon Vault, and jewellery by Angi Mac, Marika King, Return of the Stars and Aden of Aden.
In addition to being a shopping experience that should be on every Mebournian\'s to-do list, the market is a great place to hang out, with DJs playing throughout the day, drinks and coffee being served from the bar, as well as waffles and an array of baked goodies on offer.
The market is not only involved in moving fashion forward, but is also concerned with helping the community. On Wednesday October 6 the market is hosting The Up & Comers Fashion Show, where 8 of its designers will be sending their summer lines down the catwalk, with 100% of profits from the evening going to Ardoch Youth Foundation. Ardoch is a community organisation, which assists disadvantaged young people and their families through school-based programs.
Be sure to check out the next market on Saturday September 11. The Up & Comers Fashion Market runs on the second Saturday of every month from 11am-5pm. The market is held inside Ormond Hall, 557 St Kilda Road, Melbourne 3004 (enter via Moubray Street). For further information on the market and upcoming fashion show visit www.upandcomersmarket.com.au
