Southern Cross Station Wins British Award

Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station was awarded the prestigious Lubetkin Prize by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London. The station was awarded the Lubetkin Prize in September for the most outstanding building outside the European Union. Southern Cross Station was designed by Grimshaw in association with Daryl Jackson Architects and is the first Australian project to be awarded this distinguished prize.

Docklands Sprinkled with a touch of Salt-N-Pepa
Grammy award winner and hip-hop sensation Deidra “Spinderella” Jones - famous for her days with popular music group - Salt-N-Pepa, performed to a sell-out crowd at Alumbra in Docklands during her tour of Australia. Spinderalla sprinkled a touch of magic on Docklands and Melbourne fans.

Demons on the move to Docklands?
AFL club Melbourne announced they are considering moving to Docklands to set up their training and administrative headquarters at Etihad Stadium. Melbourne will also move their football department into the new rectangular stadium at Olympic Park as part of a 30-year agreement. Demons chief executive Cameron Schwab said, "Melbourne has been fragmented for years and years and (that) will improve significantly when our football operations move into the rectangular stadium.” The move to Docklands is still under careful consideration by Melbourne.

Village Docklands…Coming Soon!
Property developer Lang Walker unveiled his plans for a Melbourne apartment tower development to stand proud in Docklands. The billionaire property developer has his sights set on the Batman's Hill precinct for the 1000 plus residential and serviced apartments that will also provide additional office accommodation and a five-star Shangri-La Hotel. The development is expected to cost around $5.5 billion and will be known as the ‘Village Docklands’.

A breath of fresh Docklands air – ‘QuayPark’
MAB Corporation unveiled its $1 billion masterplan in September for its final stage of its Docklands development. Designed by Plus Architecture, the development includes four hectares of parkland and open space, manicured gardens and sculptured artworks. ‘Quay Park’ will feature rain gardens and water storage systems to ensure NewQuay’s parkland precinct will remain self sustaining. The project will provide 5,000 construction jobs to the City of Melbourne and expected to be completed by 2018.
