A ceremony was held in July at the Australian mainland's southernmost building or the 150th anniversary of the Wilsons Promontory lighthouse. The lighthouse was built by convict labour from 1853 to 1859 and located 18 kilometres south of the national park's Tidal River settlement. The first Prom light was lit 15 minutes before sunset on July 15, 1859.

Premier John Brumby, Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle and Victoria Police chief commissioner Simon Overland all addressed the 1000 strong crowd who chose to ‘Walk For Harmony’ from Carlton Gardens to Federation Square in an attempt to repair the city's reputation of being racist following several attacks on Indian students.

Victoria will be introduced to more than 50 new speed and red light digital cameras. In total there will be 31 new speed cameras set up at intersections and 22 existing cameras will go digital. The cameras will be located at 53 intersections right across Victoria, including 6 in rural areas."

Australian motorbike stuntman Robbie Maddison (28) entered the record books by performing a death-defying somersault over London's famous Tower Bridge. Robbie flew through the air on his bike over a 7.6 metre gap in the bridge's open span.
