Southern Cross Train Robbery
Police swooped Southern Cross Station after two teenagers allegedly robbed an Upfield line passenger. The incident sparked a scuffle between the-would-be thieves and security after a security guard tried to intervene and stop the robbery. The security guard received minor injuries after and it was reported by witnesses that up to five people were involved in the altercation on platform 11. The incident was captured on CCTV. Police investigations continue.
MCC Graffiti Management Plan 2009 Unveiled
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle announced MCC’s comprehensive Graffiti Management Plan endorsed by Creative City Committee. The main changes in the Graffiti Management Plan 2009 include dedicated mobile graffiti removal vehicles, more emphasis on proactive programs to tackle the problems behind graffiti, strengthening of relationships with key partners such as Victoria Police and the Department of Justice, as well as compliance with the State Government Graffiti Prevention Act 2007. More eyes will be patrolling the streets.
Frosty Docklands Reception
About 100 climate change sceptics braved icy conditions at Docklands to protest that humankind wasn’t to blame for global warming. Protesters confronted attendees arriving to the Safe Climate breakfast seminar held at Etihad Stadium, hosted by former US vice-president Al Gore, providing “evidence” showing carbon dioxide was not the main cause of global warming. The organisation’s members argue that the Earth’s climate has
always been changing warming prior to industrialisation.
Deal or No Deal?
A deal between the AFL and Etihad stadium has yet to be reached as the stadium’s management is still not prepared to share its wealth with the AFL clubs. Issues relate to private ownership. Negotiations continue. Meanwhile Demetriou has backed support behind alcohol sponsorship of the AFL after the Federal Government announced plans to look at banning alcohol advertisements from Australian sporting events.
