If the nexus between folk, soul, hip hop, and bluesy rock, with the merest dash of quirky electronica thrown in, sounds like something your ears would find beautiful, the latest Nova Tunes compilation is worth adding to your collection.

Funky New Zealand dub outfit Fat Freddy’s Drop deliver Flashback, with Joe Dukie’s sweet vocals playing off against the momentous bass driving the song. Another track notable for its vocal effort is the Republic Of Loose on Comeback Girl, with an accessible, alt-rock singalong.
The album closes with the distinctive acoustic stylings of Iron & Wine’s Jezebel, by then Nova Tunes 1.3 has presented artists you’d rarely see sharing a stage. Overall, it’s a satisfyingly cruisey ride and a job well done.
