This New Years Eve All That Glitters is Gold

Melbourne is one of the first cities in the world to see in the New Year, and we certainly do it in style. Get into the spirit by wearing a touch of gold at this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, with Gold Melbourne.

This New Year’s Eve, all that glitters is definitely gold, as the city assumes a palette of rich golden hues to bring in 2012. Retailers, restaurants and bars, iconic buildings and boats across the city will light up their facades and decorate their premises as part of the Gold Melbourne celebrations throughout December.

Free celebrations take place at Waterfront City, Docklands, with a fantastic program of entertainment starting from 6pm and two fireworks displays at 9.30pm and midnight.

Projections will light up the magnificent landmarks of St Paul’s Cathedral, the State Library and the National Gallery of Victoria
in golden glory. And come Midnight, fireworks create a golden ceiling over the city and Docklands.

The family precinct at Yarra Park (surrounding the MCG) offers live entertainment on the main stage, including Melbourne Ska Orchestra and Bob Evans, hosted by special guest MC, Denise Scott. From 6pm, roving performers, carnival
rides and sporting activities will keep all ages entertained until the 9.30pm family
fireworks display.

Alexandra Gardens and Birrarung Marr feature four stages of live music, performers and entertainment from 7pm and offer
great viewing locations for the midnight fireworks display. Feel the rush at midnight, when bursts of gold weave a spectacular path across city building rooftops, creating
a brilliant, pyrotechnic light show.
