GTV 9 confirms move to Docklands

GTV9 has announced it will relocate to new premises at 717 Bourke Street in Docklands by early 2011, positioning Fairfax Media, Channel Seven and Channel Nine all within walking distance of each other.

Channel 9 has been at their current Richmond site for 53 years, but the decision has been made to move to the new, purpose-built, high tech
location, which is also closely located to Melbourne’s Central Studios.

“We have been part of a great history at Richmond but it is time to move on. This move will create an exciting new chapter in GTV9’s history by delivering new-age technology in a modern, purpose-built television facility,” Managing Director Jeffrey Browne said.

Mr Browne also said that no locally produced programs would be lost due to the relocation. “We’ve got a number of external studio options available to
us and Nine will be crewing those studios,” he said.

Docklands will become home for some of the smaller productions including Nine News, A Current Affair, The Sunday Footy Show and Footy Classified, while larger scale productions will be made at independent studios.
