Australia’s First Ever Nitro Circus Live Lands in Melbourne

Nitro Circus Live will make its worldwide debut in Australia comprising the greatest line-up of action sport stars ever assembled, performing never before seen tricks and stunts in the most spectacular live action sports show ever produced.

Melbourne’s own Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams is the current X Games gold medallist in Freestyle Motor Cross and he spoke to 3008 about a show that is set to blow the roof.

How would you describe your personality?

I’m in constant A.D.D. mode. You have to be, to do what we do, that’s how I got this job. Most people think we are idiots putting ourselves in so much danger, but I love it!

How competitive is the world of Xtreme sports, you were the first person to do a cliff-hanger back flip, do you feel you have to be constantly amping up your stunts to stay at the top?

For sure, if what I did was easy there would be ten million other people doing it, not many people have the skill or the balls to take the risks we do; you have to have a certain mentality and set of skills that keep you part of a really small field worldwide.

How does it feel to be performing in the first ever Australian Nitro
Circus Live tour?

Awesome, Melbourne is my home crowd and I always ride my best here. The Melbourne crowds cheer the loudest and get you going. This kind of back up will give me the encouragement to show up the Americans on the tour and I want people to leave with the impression that I am the craziest guy on the planet, I also want to blow my mates away with a wild show.

You train, compete and work with sponsors in the US most of the year;
do you need to be US based to further your career?

Australia is doing OK with XSports but there aren’t really any prestigious contests here, in the US the sport has been big for about sixteen years and there is big money in it, everything is televised there. If you compare the pay of a high profile AFL player with an English Soccer or NFL player you realise in our sport we can’t make it big, based here.

You sustained a potentially career ending injury, how do you psyche yourself after recovery to attempt the same stunt?

It depends how you crashed that determines how scared you are to try again. This sport is all about confidence; I started off with the basics, built up my tricks over the months and then worked on my belief that I can conquer anything, and I did.

Who shouldn’t miss Nitro Circus Live this June at Rod Laver Arena?

No one should miss it, this is the ultimate in family entertainment, it’s like Cirque du Soleil but instead of the acrobatics you are seeing the best action sports around. People think they know what to expect from one of our shows but they have no idea until they actually see it live.
