Council to Continue to Deliver for Docklands

Council to Continue to Deliver for Docklands

As we kick off the new financial year I wanted to let the Melbourne’s Docklands community know what new projects Council has planned for the harbour precinct.

A number of exciting developments have been proposed as part of the 2010/11 budget including feasibility and design work into: a library, community centre, district social and recreational hub, a community boating facility, community school and functional outdoor meeting spaces.

Council’s planned financial commitment to delivering services, infrastructure,
and capital works for Docklands over the next decade will require
significant investment.

Both the Docklands Library and Community Centre and the Docklands recreational Hub will commence in 2010/11 and these projects alone are expected to require funding of more than $25 million in future financial years.
The continued development of Melbourne’s Docklands is an exciting time for
our city and careful planning and financial management are required to ensure
that we successfully integrate the CBD and Melbourne’s Docklands.

I look forward to engaging and consulting the local community throughout this coming financial year to ensure any new developments meet the requirements
of all who live and work in Docklands, as this important area of the city continues to grow and prosper.
