Docklands Resident Cam Walsh Lives The Dream of a Lifetime

Docklands Resident Cam Walsh Lives The Dream of a Lifetime

In July last year, Cameron Walsh turned 30 and was featured as the Docklands Personality in the ‘Celebrating Milstones in Docklands’ article where his ultimate gift was to travel to Pittsburgh to watch his beloved Pittsburgh Penguins and reigning Stanley Cup Champions which was scheduled for January 2010 thanks to the generosity of family and friends.

Barely escaping the mad Eastern snow storms Cam returned to a muggy Docklands with plenty of tales, more jerseys and a grin bigger than a Cheshire Cat. Not only did Cam get to watch six games of ice hockey, he met his favourite player, Stanley Cup winning goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury and a host of other team members including Sidney Crosby, Penguins captain and the goal scoring Canadian responsible for Canada’s gold medal win over arch rivals America at the recent Winter Olympics.

If that wasn’t enough icing on the trip of a lifetime, he also went backstage at ‘The Igloo’ (Penguins’ home ice) meeting the coaching and management staff behind the winning team. This dream trip continued with Cam facing off with the fitness teams of the Penguins and the Pirates (Pittsburgh’s Major League Baseball team), gaining valuable insights into professional sports in America and learning new techniques to share with his clients at dluxe health & fitness.

Finally, a chance meeting with several reporters from the national hockey media led to a near full page article in the Sunday sports section of the Pittsburgh Tribune, a paper with 30 something sports reporters and a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the National Hockey League (NHL) headquarters in New York.

In Cameron’s words, “I get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I think about my trip. There are just so many memories, so many wonderful people who have become my friends that I am lost for words to describe what this trip has meant for me.”
