Keeping Cats Cool & Cared for

Nowadays, there are a vast number of products on the market that are developed to help keep your pet cat happy and healthy. It can, however, be quite confusing for owners to choose what is necessary and suitable. At the Flemington Veterinary Hospital, the staff are equipped with the knowledge to help you distinguish what is best for your cat.

All cats should be protected against intestinal worms and fleas regularly. Consistent prevention will also help protect you and your family from these parasites as well. These products can come in many forms such as tablets and pastes, but the easiest to use is the spot-on liquid. It is particularly good for cats that hate receiving oral medication. All that is required is to squeeze a tiny tube of liquid onto the skin at the back of your cat’s neck, and voila! You’re done.

Vaccinations for cats are required to help prevent infectious diseases. Generally, kittens should receive 3 vaccinations between the ages of 6 weeks and 16 weeks.

Adult cats should have an annual examination and at that consultation we will recommend a vaccination regime. Feline Immunodeficiency Viruses (FIV) is spread by biting and is a problem for outdoor cats. FIV vaccine can be added into your cat’s vaccination regime if appropriate.

Cats need sunscreen too! Especially if they have no pigment over their nose, ears and lips. Only use pet safe sunscreen which is available at Flemington Veterinary Hospital Flemington Veterinary Hospital also sell kittens which are desexed, vaccinated, micro chipped, wormed and defleaed, and cost $150 per kitten.
