BIA Victoria and Parks Victoria have established a formal partnership to facilitate development and improvement of marine infrastructure. The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will help to deliver long-term benefits to Port Phillip and Western Port.
The MoU is a formal partnership between BIA Victoria and Parks Victoria to improve and expand boating infrastructure in Port Phillip and Western Port, including new and upgraded marinas, dry stacks and boat ramps. It was signed by Gordon Howlett and Robert Coco on behalf of BIA Victoria and by CEO Mark Stone and Deputy CEO Gerard O’Neill on behalf of Parks Victoria.
Robert Coco said the MoU built on the valued role Parks Victoria had played in recent marine developments such as Queenscliff Harbour. “It formally recognises recreational boating as a legitimate and widely enjoyed activity on the bays and waterways managed by Parks Victoria,” he said.
“In addition to the MoU, BIA is facilitating introductions for Parks Victoria into the industry so the key Parks staff can gain better insights into the projects in which they are involved.”
Mark Stone said the MoU formalised Parks Victoria’s relationship
with BIA Victoria as part of an active, long-term partnership.
“It establishes a framework for effective communication,” he said. “Good communication is vital for negotiating the maze of government agencies involved in marine developments, and it opens up opportunities for future cooperative projects. This formal agreement builds on the excellent relationships we already enjoy with BIA President Gordon Howlett and his Board and management.”
