Road Closures and Detours during August

In order to extend the tramline into the median of Footscray Road, construction of the tram crossing of the Dudley Street / Docklands Drive intersection is required. In order to do this, Harbour Esplanade between Docklands Drive and La Trobe Street and the Harbour Esplanade / Docklands Drive intersection will be closed during the weekend of 14 and 15 August 2010.

Car and tram services will be diverted at La Trobe Street during this time and access to Footscray Road and Waterfront City will be available via Wurundjeri Way. If you are travelling from Footscray Road to the Stadium or Victoria Harbour, use Wurundjeri Way and continue towards Etihad Stadium. Turn right into Bourke Street to access Victoria Harbour. Access to Waterfront City, will be via Waterfront Way and Pearl River Road.

Following in the coming weeks, in order to complete these works, traffic will be reduced to one lane between Latrobe Street and Docklands Drive. These preparatory works will take approximately four weeks to complete. During this time the right hand lane in each direction will be closed.

Docklands Writers Group is on the way!

The initial stages of bringing to life Docklands own writers group are underway. It is hoped the group will commence in October but in the meantime please send your expressions of interest to rose@grahammercer.com.au

Docklands will get a new federal MP at the next election

The Member for Melbourne and Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner, announced he will not contest the federal election on August 21st.

Alumbra celebrates 8th Birthday

Docklands VIP bar Alumbra turned 8 years old recently and celebrations
were anything but low key.

A glamorous crowd attended the Brazilian themed party at Alumbra, which was transformed into a colourful carnivale. Brazilian DJ Meme spun tunes all night and Brazilian percussionists the Samba Queens made sure no one was standing still.

Alumbra Director Simon Digby said that the night was a true representation of
the Alumbra vibe. \"From our early days at South Wharf, Alumbra has set the bench mark for Melbourne night life. We have a strong following within Melbourne and it\'s great to see that people still have a real connection with the bar.\"

Harbour Town Fun

If you managed to get down to Harbour Town during the school holidays, you would have been excited at the volumes of visitors through the shopping precinct. The snow works were a hit with kids who were absolutely delighted in finding a snippet of the Alps right here in Docklands!

The lighting installations are beautiful and have transformed the wintery nights into a sky of colourful illuminations.

Hooray for HOLLYWOOD

The movie The Killer Elite is currently being filmed at Melbourne\'s Docklands Studios, and has brought some big name Hollywood royalty to the area,
Robert DeNiro, Clive Owen and Jason Statham have all been shooting scenes
at the studios.

Puppy parvovirus outbreak

Veterinarians across Australia have been treating unusually high numbers of the potentially deadly parvovirus this winter.

In the past two months in Victoria alone there have been around 50 reported cases of parvovirus, which is particularly worrying for new dog owners as parvovirus is most severe in puppies - with death in around 80 per cent of untreated cases. Common signs of the disease are severe vomiting and bloody diarrhoea. Get your puppy or kitten vaccinated, this is a preventable disease.
