With the lead up to the 2010 ANZ Netball Championship Finals Series getting hot, the scene was set last month in the foyer of the ANZ Headquarters at Docklands. The heat simmered from the celebrity cook-off between netball greats Sharelle McMahon, Captain of the Melbourne Vixens and team mate Julie Corletto, under the watchful eye and taste testing expertise of Adam Swanson, award-winning restaurateur and star of TEN’s “Ready Steady Cook”.
The celebrity sporting stars were given the challenge to prepare (within 10 minutes), a cauliflower, pancetta, sage and hazelnut cream angel hair pasta dish. This posed quite a few interesting, if not hilarious shortcuts from the ladies who are obviously more comfortable on the netball court than in the kitchen, but it was all in the name of fun and in the lead up to a great fundraising cause held a few days later.
Two celebrity-packed teams took to the netball court in front of a full house at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena for the annual Netball’s Festival of Stars charity match. The match game was a sell out in support of charities beyondblue and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
The day concluded with approximately $20,000 raised, but unfortunately
the Melbourne Vixens were ousted in their playoff against the
Adelaide Thunderbirds.
At print time the Adelaide Thunderbirds had advanced to the Grand Final, and will play the winner of the upcoming preliminary final which will be fought
out on Sunday 4th July. The grand final will be played in Adelaide on Sunday
11th July.
