Docklands features as part of Melbourne Open House 2010

An initiative of the Committee for Melbourne and in its third year, Melbourne Open House is a free event showcasing Melbourne’s unique architectural heritage. Its aim is to foster an appreciation and understanding of the value of architecture, urban design and design excellence.

MOH spokesperson Robert Larocca said that following 2009’s success this year would give visitors twice the opportunity to see twice as many buildings.
“By running the event over two days we hope to give many more Melbournians the chance to be a tourist in their own town again. It’s a once a year opportunity to experience the buildings that make Melbourne, Melbourne.”

This year a number of buildings in Docklands will be open to the public
to venture inside and discover the neighbourhood from the inside out.
“Some attendees won’t have to leave Docklands this year! We have seven buildings open which is about as many as you can see in one day. This specific focus on Docklands is a very important part of the event” Said Robert Larocca.

Last year there were over 50,000 visits to the 32 open buildings; following on from that success 60 buildings are now part of the program which will also double from a one day event to two days this year.

Mr Larocca added that Melbourne Open House will also give Melbournians the opportunity to see the very best medium and high density housing, a style that will become increasing important in housing the city’s growing population and MOH organisers have been extremely impressed by the enthusiasm and support shown from building owners to participate in this popular event.

We suggest that you to plan your day and visit the website to purchase

year opportunity.

Melbourne Open House will run over Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of July.
