Easter is the most significant religious holiday on the Christian calendar. Easter celebrates the promise of life in the face of death. Easter is about peace and forgiveness and a time for thinking about suffering, injustice and hardship. Easter allows Christians to reflect upon their personal views and spiritual relationship with God and their relationship with Jesus Christ and an opportunity to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection three days after
his crucifixion.
Well this is loosely the religious meaning of Easter, but Easter means many things to many people and this year to keep this very holy occasion a little light hearted I asked a group of young children to tell me what Easter means to them. It goes without saying some interpretations were quite different from the Christian meaning of Easter.
“Easter is when the Easter bunny comes to visit and brings some chocolate eggs with him” Alexandra 4yrs
“Easter is when you eat as many chocolate eggs as you can before Mum finds out” Michael 6yrs
“Easter is when Jesus died” Florence 7 yrs
“Easter is when you have to go to sleep early and wait for presents
in the morning” Angelique 4yrs
“Easter is when you get to play with your family and have fun together” Ethan 7yrs
“Easter is when Mum says we have to go to Church!” Eden 6yrs
“Um?? The Easter bunny comes to Safeway” Maddy 5yrs
