When you live or work in a fabulous waterfront location such as the Docklands you simply must explore and enjoy the waterways and boating activities available on your door step. With summer approaching 3008 would like to highlight just a few of the tremendous activities that await you.
Discover Sailing is based at Waterfront City and offers leisure sails and corporate charters of up to ten people on their yacht Veeword, an Elan Impression 384. Relax on a three hour leisure sail in either the morning, afternoon or at twilight and sail along the Yarra River until the sails are raised and you head into Port Phillip Bay. Be as involved as you want or kick back with light refreshments and a glass of bubbly. Oh, the life!
Discover Sailing caters perfectly for corporate entertaining and meetings with kitchen and bathroom facilities, a flat screen TV for presentations and team building sessions are available on request. Take advantage of some great November and December special packages; such as the Sail and Dine, Pamper or Corporate Charter with Fish and Chip Lunch Package.
November and December are literally the party months of the year so don’t miss out on the Oaks Day Carnival Cruise setting sail from the forecourt area at Victoria Quay to Flemington via the river. Start off with a glass of champagne followed by a gourmet lunch. Once you arrive at Flemington you are invited to unwind in a private outdoor entertaining area.
For a different type of merriment consider the beautiful Christmas Day Dinner Boat Cruise back by popular demand with your family or friends. The three hour cruise departs from the Docklands and includes a three course meal and live entertainment. For more details visit the City of Melbourne website for the full list of chartered services.
But if enjoying the water is something you would like to make a habit of, contact the Docklands Boat School for extensive courses ranging from gaining a boating license to yacht cruising and everything you need to know in between.
As their tagline states the “BoatSchool will provide enjoyable learning experiences that encourage and develop confident participation in boating” and they have new courses commencing in November. The one day Yacht Cruising Intro & Bareboat Charter course covers hands on training in sheltered waters and takes a maximum of 5 people; the course offers basic boat skills aboard a yacht and is recommended for those considering chartering a yacht.
The Navigation – Inshore Skipper Theory course is run for 7 hours over 2 weeks, on successful completion participants should have a comprehensive understanding of the vast range of navigation tools necessary. These courses are only two of many run throughout the year at the BoatSchool, contact John Sanders or view the website for further information.
Sea Kayaking is great way to enjoy the water, the view, the history and while having heaps of active fun in the Docklands. Sea Kayaking Australia regularly runs events and courses and is accessible for beginners and experienced kayakers alike.
