WORLD FOOD DAY 2010 CELEBRATES CAMBODIAN CUISINE

In celebration of World Food Day on 16 October 2010, Chan Ouy Owner and Chef at popular Cambodian restaurant Bohpa Devi, will be offering FREE tastings and educationals on traditional Cambodian cuisine.
Chan will be cooking up some traditional and delicious recipes from the Cambodian cookbook From Spiders to Water Lilies, a collaboration of Cambodian recipes by Gutav Auer and the Romdeng team - a restaurant located in Phnom Penh established by Friends-International and now run exclusively by ex-street kids.

Founded by the Food and Agriculture Association of the United Nations, this year\'s World Food Day theme is to Unite Against Hunger raising awareness about hunger stricken nations including Cambodia, which is currently classified as alarming.

According to the World Food Programme of the United Nations, over 30% of Cambodians still live under the poverty line with 1 in 5 Cambodians considered food insecure and almost 40% of children chronically malnourished.

Through the projects of non-profit organisations such as Friends-International, there is aid and assistance available for these critical countries. Based in Phnom Penh, Friends-International have engaged close to a million homeless and vulnerable children over the past 15 years, providing not only immediate fundamental needs but also empowering them with education, vocation and ultimately employment.

Join Chan and the Bopha Devi team to experience:
• Cambodian culture and how it has
influenced their food
• The history of Cambodian cuisine
• What makes Cambodian cuisine so unique
• The variations used in neighbouring Thai and Vietnam
• Tastings of different traditional Cambodian dishes
• Simple recipes for the Australian home
• A touch on Friends International
• How we can help Unite Against Hunger
